Playtime with Ink Dusting

Posted by Unknown 0 comments

We have been planning for a few weeks to demonstrate Ink Dusting on our Craft & Chat YouTube videos, so have been practising.

Instead of the usual long view from the camera of us sitting side-by-side, I have gone for two separate individual close-up-hands videos to show the techniques. Ruth went first and then I did the second.  Two different inky pictures were the result, both at playtime level! Next time we might try brayering!!! I went for the unsafe option of trying a sea scene instead of the standard hills and trees - silly me - it needs more work, but at least it shows the techniques.

I have a new video-editing programme on my computer, so I had to battle with getting to grips with that, then found the videos were over the 15 minutes allowed for upload.  Aaaarrrggghhh.

However, after much tweaking, they are now done and dusted lol.

I have just uploaded them both to my YouTube Channel and hope you will take the time to go look at them.

These are the two direct links that will take you right to the videos.

Feedback received: Loraine Think it looks amazing Alice - you asked for answers on a postcard regarding the sea - I would have inked a straight line at the sun end of the sea to give a horizon - that way you can see where the sea ends and the sky starts. You could also blank out slithers of card when inking nearer the shore line for gentle white breakers. Also if the sea is calm why not add in a paler reflection of the sun on the water.
Hope you don't mind my comments (I have to say I'm NOT arty at all). xx

Crafty Alice replies:  I love the feedback, thanks, Loraine. Jane from the craft group gave me tips for finishing that sea picture. I ran out of time as well as skill to finish the picture on-camera!

5 docrafts Member Galleries I LOVE and Why

Posted by Unknown 2 comments

Blog prompt #2

Support and comments from other crafters has been very important and so kind. Looking through other members galleries and blogs has been a massive source of inspiration and an opportunity to discover new talent.

First up Gallery has to be my friend craftywhippet though, like mine, her gallery is not entirely up to date! Too many things to do.

Then, in no particular order McCraftySilverScrapper, jbee1lainie and Carrieanne. Why? Well I suppose because we have each commented on each other's cards, galleries and blogs! That's how we make Buddies online.

Cards I have been making recently include this large A4 30th birthday card.  The craft group is great for sharing different items, and I used Jane's diecuts to make the name tag and scrolls and her rubber stamps for the elegant lady and script background.  My Copic pens and Tim Holtz distress inks coloured the lady.
Maybe I should upload it to my docrafts gallery...oops.

Inky Again

Posted by Unknown 2 comments
Third time of practice, Rita! I think I had an Off day while Ruth very much had an On day, including brayering in her dusting! However, we did achieve results.

The table was very full! We each have Inkylicious brushes and rubber stamps, Speedball brayer, ink pads (Adirondack, Memento, Tim Holtz), card, post-it note "masks", copy paper for testing colour and dabbing, baby wipes and spearmint soap to clean our inky fingers.
We tidied up slightly as we began our third project of the afternoon and made the beginning of plans as to what we might actually do on camera.
We've certainly made use of these recent purchases, which makes a nice change from buying and trying once...Happy ink dusting and brayering!

craftywhippet's haul

I thought the best way to display my goodies was to spread them over the floor. Now I have the task of putting them all away except for the ones I want to play with !!!

Tatty Teddy

The latest enthusiasm – From Me to You: Tatty Teddy.
There was a free rubber stamp and dots embossing folder with the doCrafts magazine (unfortunately I forgot to photograph the first cards we made with it at the Hospice) and I’ve just bought a wooden rubber stamp of TT with Flower Pots:
Tatty Teddy Tatty Teddy Flower Pots
Both Ruth and I bought the Copic pen B12 Ice Blue, which gives the correct blue for his nose, and the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Weathered Wood, which should give a nice grey to edge the background, plus pen R20 Blush if we fancy a pink nose! Versafine Grey, Memento Sepia and suitable pink and blue ink pads will give variety to his body to suit different cards.

Feeling Nostalgic

Posted by Unknown 1 comments
The Great Normano and I took a day out to Prestwick to have a celebratory anniversary meal, so naturally I visited the CreativeArtShop. Sadly, the actual shop is closing down on 15 August, (might be some bargains!), so that John Byars can concentrate on his art.  As you know, he designs rubber stamps for doCrafts, and I weakened enough to buy another two for my collection:
John Byars umbrella John Byars the girl
The umbrella is most suitable for our Scottish weather! I just love the Nostalgia range and used the footballer for a boy birthday, ‘the gift’ card for Jane’s birthday.  The observant among you will notice I changed the 3 to a 5 to fit the birthday age.  Watercolours such as Twinkling H2Os are ideal for adding some extra colour: JB the gift birthday
John Byars footballer
Tim Holtz Distress Inks are great for the edges around the shape, using Cut ‘n’ Dry Foam to dab on the ink:

He has two other sets of acrylic clear stamps in a range by Papermania:
JB PMA Classic Cars JB PMA Pastimes
As always, the detail is beautiful. I hope you manage to get hold of some of these stamps and have fun with them.
PS -- OK I weakened and bought four more to complete my set:
John Byars bubbles
John Byars rainy day John Byars the gift John Byars swinging
