Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful

Posted by Unknown 1 comments
Sleet, gales, cold wind in Glasgow - yeegh. However, the Glitter Pot quickly sent my Tsukineko Brilliance pearlescent ink pads so no excuse not to do ink-dusting! They very kindly added-in a chocolate bar - yummy, shhh.

Evan liked his Santa card from Gan and Papa, project shown by Ann at the craft group:

His parents got the easel cut-out, which was Ruth's project at the group:

Candy Cane Snowglobe
I love my new snowglobe - it's supposed to sit on top of a candle jar, but I just made a card to sit beside it, explaining the Legend of the Candy Cane. Of course, it's just that - a legend - but it fits a truth.

If I don't get round to another post - Happy Christmas to all and to all a good year!

Candy Cane Christmas

Posted by Unknown 2 comments

Well Christmas is getting nearer, and in free time-spaces I've been getting some stuff pinned to my Pinterest Boards. It's a great idea to display anything and everything that is of interest to you on pinboards of your choice. You can see my links at the top of the page.

I visited Cardwell Bay Garden Centre near Gourock and was amused to find a gold lavatory on display. The clue to what they're selling is on the shelves.
A Royal Flush
Loads of candles were for sale, of course, but I liked the candle jar topper snowglobe.
Snow, snow, snow, snow, snow!

Crochet

Posted by Unknown 0 comments
I've taken up crochet again, after refreshing my memory of how to do the basic stitches for Granny Squares, planning on making a stocking for Evan's Christmas. It's fun to get back into an old hobby first picked up when I was a teenager! It might take me till December to complete it. However, I haven't given up on cardmaking and have made his 1st birthday card for 5 April, using an idea that craftywhippet came up with. Watch this space...

Meanwhile I've crocheted a wee flower, and used a nice pearl button in the centre, for my pull-on hat against the snowy Arctic winds. I got the pattern from a blog called Attic24, using just one random colour green wool.

Snow Joke

Posted by Unknown 0 comments
Well the snow has finally reached Glasgow, we hoped it would stay elsewhere in Scotland. Ah, but this morning the noise of the children playing in the park sounds happy! Our little Grandsons are too young for such joys. Last night was so cold, we've turned soft over this wet winter. Here's a last night and this morning pair of photos.

Perhaps it's a day for crafting indoors?

Happy Christmas from Scotland to our Crafting Friends

Posted by Unknown 1 comments
To this acrylic tree I added a wee light in the base, then hung different snowflakes, purchased through eBay, from the branches and photographed it in our recent snowy Scottish weather.
May the joy of the angels,
the eagerness of the shepherds,
the perseverance of the wise men,
the obedience of Joseph and Mary,
and the peace of the Christ child
be yours this Christmas.

Snowman Soup

Posted by Unknown 1 comments
I had heard of Reindeer Food but this was a new one on me -
I was interested to read this blog about Snowman Soup and found that there are lots of blog posts and YouTube videos. Had a look around my supermarket for the ingredients and got them all.  It’s such a cute idea for a wee gift, and for crafters to make is an absolute doddle.  All that’s needed for each person is:
  • single packet of hot chocolate (Cadbury’s come in pairs)
  • a few tiny marshmallows
  • candy cane (or cinnamon stick) for a stirring stick
  • cellophane card bag or gusseted sweet/candy bag
  • decorative paper/card to stick bag closed (use corner rounder if wanted)
  • suitable snowman poem printed out on labels; eg:
Was told you've been real good this year
Always glad to hear it
With freezing weather drawing near
You'll need to warm the spirit
So here's a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick
Just add hot water, sip it slow
It's sure to do the trick!

This is actually a card I made a few years ago, but I try to remember to photograph them before they go!
You will get a complete story of the Legend of the Candy Cane from this link.

I finished the card from the Scottish Tartan Cards video by using my Martha Stewart punch and putting in a nice insert:

Finally, all Christmas cards are made plus a few others for Birthdays and Get Well, so I’ve been kept out of mischief - and the temperature dropped again last night to –6C with some more snow!

However, Tim Holtz Giveaways are on offer at YoursArtfully – and you can follow his 12 Tags of Christmas on YouTube, which lots of the Fiskateers are making.  Enjoy!

The Great Normano is not snowed-in even at -8C

The Great Normano in -8CThomas Kinkade Christmas Memories

Well, in the midst of chaotic weather conditions I have at least found time to do my Christmas cards.  This one is for Ann, shhh, don’t tell her…she likes decoupage, so I printed on pearlised paper this Thomas Kinkade  – the horses were footery to cut and silicone! - the scene mirrors what’s going on outside the window! ooh, there’s the sun out…

Snowy Metal

Posted by Unknown 9 comments
I went to Karen’s metal work class (Ten Seconds Studio) at Craft World, Glasgow, last night through awful icy snow conditions - but it was worth it. We made this giant 8 inch Christmas card. While we concentrated on the metal techniques (each piece individually embossed, sanded, cut and glued into the rectangle shapes), Karen prepared the card, poinsettias and swirls for us; otherwise we would have been there for the night - it took 3 hours of work for what should have been a 2 hour class: what fun!

Snowy Scotland Day 2

It's nearly Christmas ...

Hand-crafted stockings
My patchworker neighbour made these lovely Christmas stockings
Just hear those sleigh bells ringing and kids are singing ... yes the schools in Scotland are closed for the holidays. Freezing fog rather than snow and it's reeeeally cold.

If anyone out there is STILL crafting Christmas cards, then you've left it too late, keep them for next year.

Happy Christmas from Craft & Chat
